The Feedsack Star Crop Coat
During the Great Depression, everyday staples like flour, sugar, and animal feed were packaged in cotton sacks. Families, wasting nothing, turned those sacks into clothing, quilts, and whatever else they needed. Once manufacturers realized people were reusing the fabric, they started printing the sacks with beautiful florals, plaids, and cheerful patterns.
Nearly a century later, those same prints are still telling their stories.
This quilt needed a lot of repair before it could become something new. There are still signs of wear, faded spots, and little reminders of the life it lived before me. I could have tried to erase every imperfection—but I didn't want to. To me, those worn places represent hard work, resourcefulness, and love stitched into every square.
